What Determines Active Load Capacity

Three factors drive how much of an active ingredient a single gummy can realistically carry:

  • Density and volume — some actives (like certain mineral forms) are dense and compact; others (like some botanical extracts) are bulky relative to their potency, taking up more physical space per milligram of active.

  • Solubility and interaction with the gel matrix — actives that dissolve cleanly into the base tend to load more predictably than actives that resist incorporation or interact chemically with the pectin or gelatin system.

Sometimes the math doesn't work in one piece — a high target dose combined with a bulky or hard-to-mask active can push past what's realistic for a pleasant, single-gummy serving. When that happens during feasibility review, we'll tell you directly, and typically offer one of a few paths forward:

  • Split the dose across a multi-gummy serving (e.g., 2–3 gummies per serving instead of 1)

  • Reformulate around a more concentrated or more soluble form of the active, if one exists

  • Recommend a different delivery format for that specific ingredient, if a gummy genuinely isn't the right vehicle
